Nairobi’s favorite boy band, Sauti Sol, has, over the years, positioned itself as one of the top names in the Kenyan music industry, simply by being one of the most hard-working groups out there. The members have built their success on applying themselves with a constant willingness to experiment.

So, when the opportunity arose to work with the futuristic South African producer, Spoek Mathambo, Sauti Sol didn’t hesitate. His productions are out of this world, but the band clicked with him instantly, letting the music flow in all sorts of directions, to produce what Sauti Sol calls “Afro-Future” sounds. The end product is a mélange of rock, Afro sounds, electronica, and soulfully-arranged ballads that will surely tingle your musical taste buds. On the first track off the EP, “Love or Leave”, Sauti Sol declares love over a soft rock track, where Spoek gets heavy on the bass and guitars, creating a lovely Lingala background.

The playful track, “Range Rover”, borrows from such diverse genres as folk and hardcore drum and base. For the ladies, “Summer Love” is the holiday anthem that will get them loosening up a bit. All reggae heads will love “Slow”, which features singer Dela. It’s a smoothed -out Dancehall jam, sure to get people busy on the dance floor.

The tone gets highly explosive on “Disco Lover”, and Spoek gets into his element, moving the jam into an electro zone. The track you’ve been waiting for is “Mr. Money”. It’s a sure club-banger that will definitely make European fans happy. Sauti Sol’s powerful signature voice sets the tone throughout the album. Featuring excellent production values, this is one of the most creative pieces of work released out of Kenya recently. The professionalism and the great mastering further fires up this awesome EP.
